Intel, 50 Cent Making Headphones That Track Heart Rate

Intel and SMS Audio ink a partnership to develop fitness-focused headphones that will track the wearer's heart rate.

Intel announced Thursday the collaboration with SMS Audio, the company founded and owned by rapper Curtis '50 Cent' Jackson.

The companies first project is a headphone called 'BioSport In-Ear Headphones'.

Intel's New Devices Group general manager Mike Bell explained that the BioSport In-Ear utilizes optical sensors that can track blood flow and gives the wearer precise heart rate reading.

Users are able to view the data using the RunKeeper app developed by Boston-based company FitnessKeeper.

The headphones are also perspiration resistant and other forms of moisture. It also has ear-hook design that provides a comfortable fit.

The headphones also draw power from a smartphone through an audio jack, no batteries are required.

It is estimated that the BioSport In-Ear will go on sale later this year, and its price has yet to be determined.
