LG unveils Samsung Galaxy Note 4 rival, the G3 Stylus

LG HAS REVEALED a rival to the widely anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 4 ahead of the IFA electronics trade show set to take place in Berlin next week.

Named the G3 Stylus, the smartphone is another take on the firm's flagship G3 smartphone with a productivity twist, and LG announced it quietly on Tuesday.

Featuring a 5.5in QHD IPS display and powered by a quad-core 1.3GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, the G3 Stylus' unique feature is the proprietary 'Rubberdium stylus pen', which like the Galaxy Note, allows users to scribble notes with pre-loaded programs, such as LG's Quickmemo+ app.

The Samsung Galaxy Note rival also boasts 8GB of internal storage, microSD support, a 13MP rear-facing camera, a 1.3MP front snapper and a 3,000mAh battery.

LG will roll out the G3 Stylus in black, white and gold colour options starting in Brazil in September, followed by certain countries in Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the firm said. Prices and availability details are yet to be revealed, but LG said that these will be announced locally closer to launch.

Check back next week during our coverage at IFA, where we hope to get a closer look at LG's new note-taking device.

Though not confirmed, it's strongly rumoured that Samsung will also release its next-generation Galaxy Note phablet at IFA, widely expected to be Samsung's highest specification phone of 2014.

The Galaxy Note 4 is rumoured to feature a 2560x1440 resolution QHD Super AMOLED screen, besting the HD 1080p display on last year's model. The screen is also expected to measure 5.7in, the same size as last year's Galaxy Note 3.

There's also talk that Samsung will make the Galaxy Note 4 available in two versions, one with a curved screen and one without. However, the flexible model likely will only see a release in South Korea. Previous rumours had suggested that the Galaxy Note 4 will feature a 'wraparound' display with touchscreen buttons on its side, but we'd take this with a pinch of salt.

Pricing remains a mystery at present, but if it's anything like last year's Galaxy Note 3, expect it to fetch around £550. ยต
