Hyundai to Pay $17 Million Fine

WASHINGTON - Hyundai will pay a large fine for not disclosing a defect in a timely manner.


The automaker's Genesis models from 2009 through 2012 had a brake defect that could've increased the risk of a crash and led to a recall.According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Hyundai knew about the problem since 2012.


Now the company has agreed to pay a civil penalty of more than $17 million for failing to report the defect quickly.There were no fatalities reported, related to the issue.
