We called it when the Amazon Fire Phone launched, we said that the device lacked that something special to make it a hit and later pre-order analytics proved that it could be a huge flop. It seems that no one is buying the handset just weeks after its roll out, but worse it seems that most consumers have no intentions at all of buying the device.

It goes without saying that when a smartphone first hits the market it tends to be at its most potent from a sales perspective (think Apple's iPhone launch weekend). A survey by R.W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian showed that most consumers did not want the Fire Phone, with more people preferring to buy one of Blackberry's smartphones.

When asked what handset they would buy, the Amazon Fire Phone was wanted by just 5% of those quizzed, with the iPhone naturally the most desirable smartphone with 43.8%. Following Apple's sales juggernaut were Android devices (HTC's, LG's, Samsung's etc.) with 32.6% and then Blackberry 6.8% and finally Windows Phone with 5.3%.

Windows is so out of demand in the US that it is causing much concern for Microsoft, so for the Fire Phone to even lag behind that platform is worrying for Amazon. The company has proven in the past that it is willing to ride hardware losses if it means that more people end up in the wider ecosystem and spend money there. That will certainly have to be the scenario this time if the Fire Phone is to be anything but an early embarrassment and a flop to rival HTC?s Facebook Phone. source: BGR
