A portion of Interstate 95 North in Woburn was closed this morning after a tractor trailer spilled a load of crushed cranberries, officials said.


Exit 36 at Washington Street and a bit of the right lane of I-95 North was closed for about an hour when the truck, for unclear reasons, lost a load of crushed cranberries, spilling them over the highway at 6:27 a.m., said Nicole Morrell, a spokeswoman for State Police. It was unclear if the truck crashed, but no one was injured, she said.

The Woburn Fire Department used a heavy hose to remove the cranberry paste from the roadway, and the Department of Transportation poured sand on the exit ramp to absorb the moisture from the hose and any remaining cranberry debris, Morrell said.


'I'd imagine it probably slowed [traffic] down, but nothing significant,' Morrell said.


State Police announced that the ramp and right lane were reopened shortly after 8 a.m.
