LG Unveils 18

LG Display aims to make television portable in the future as it unveils a paper thin, 18-inch rollable television panel prototype that can be rolled like a newspaper Friday.

The transparent OLED panel has almost 1 million megapixels, a resolution of 1200 x 810, and can be rolled up into a 2.4-inch diameter cylinder with without affecting its high-definition display.

LG said it used polyimide film instead of using typical plastic for the backbone of the screen. The material extremely shrunk the thickness of the screen and gave it the flexibility needed to roll it into a cylinder shape.

The company also displayed a transparent panel that has a significantly sharper picture quality than the see-through LCD displays at present.

LG is confident that it can produce a huge 60-inch Ultra HD, transparent rollable television by 2017.

LG has already introduced some impressive flexible TV technology at CES earlier this year. It joined Samsung and Nokia , who are both producing increasingly pliable displays.
