Topping tech headlines on Wednesday was news that Apple reached a settlement in its ongoing e-book price-fixing case, which could result in it forking over $450 million.

The deal must still be approved by a New York district court, and the final amount owed depends on the outcome of Cupertino's pending appeal. If Apple loses, it will pay $400 million into a consumer compensation fund, $20 million to settle state cases, and $30 million to the class counsel. If the liability part of the case must be re-tried, the company could end up paying $50 million to consumers and $10 million each to states and class counsel. Or, it could prevail and pay nothing.

In other e-book news, Amazon is reportedly testing a new e-book and audiobook subscription service dubbed 'Kindle Unlimited, which allows readers to read to their heart's content for $9.99 per month. A leaked page suggests access to more than 600,000 titles, including the Hunger Games and Harry Potter series, though it's unclear if all major publishers are on board.

Meanwhile, Sprint and T-Mobile are reportedly planning to jointly bid approximately $10 billion on spectrum in next year's FCC incentive auction. The move, however, is supposedly contingent on their rumored merger getting approval.
