Virtual Reality Gathered the Biggest Crowd at G

Virtual reality gathered the biggest crowd at G-Star in Busan, Korea. It seems like the next big thing next to mobile in gaming is virtual reality. Virtual reality (VR) software and hardware gathered the most attention from the 200,000 fans and insiders of the game industry attending the G-Star show which ended Monday in Korea.

A lot of people focused their attention over to the Oculus Rift booth to try the new prototype called Crescent Bay, and watch demo simulations and play games while sitting on couches.

Many of the Korean game studios presenting VR games have also opted for the Oculus Rift VR set. NCSoft Korea showed a trailer of a 3D third person shooter called 'Project Hon.' Hanyoung Engineering, also using the Oculus Rift, showed its new 4D movie theatre seats and hang gliders.

Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus Rift said the company is creating an input device to enhance the VR set. Brendan said the VR vision is only half of the big picture. He believes the other half is interaction and is working on a way that lets people see their own hands and other people's faces.

Content-wise, Iribe expects real-time cinema and games to be the first popular uses of the Oculus Rift VR set. Similar to the effect of playing video games on the virtual reality set, people watching movies through the Oculus Rift will be able to feel as though they are part of the movie. DreamWorks Animation showed 360 degrees computer generated images compatible with the Oculus Rift or Gear VR from Samsung Electronics which they called super cinema.

At the end of the month Samsung will also release their own headset called the Gear VR and powered by Oculus software. The Samsung device will use the Galaxy Note 4 as a display as it is capable of rendering 4K videos.

Even if virtual reality gathered the biggest crowd at G-Star, the show held other interesting attractions and CEO of the German game publisher and developer Handy Games, Christopher Kassulke had this to say:

'Gaming means you have fun together. We don't really believe that you can have fun together when everyone is wearing glasses or headsets, it just doesn't look nice,'
