Skylanders: Trap Team: New Traptanium Portal lets you trap enemies, features ...

Activision has announced Skylanders: Trap Team, the fourth game in the multi-billion dollar franchise due for release on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS on October 10.

This year's game will let players trap enemies using the new Traptanium Portal before fighting as them across Skylands. Once captured you'll be able to hear the enemy come to life through the new Portal's built-in speaker, and swap between your Skylander and villain at the push of a button.

Enemies can be captured using one of Trap Team's eight new crystals: one for each of the different element types, with multiple villains able to be trapped on each. You'll even be able to capture main villain Kaos, although Kotaku reports that Activision's keeping quiet on whether it's actually him or an imposter.

As well as playing as the villains, over 60 new physical Skylanders figures will also be available to pick up and all previously released Skylanders will remain compatible. As with Swap Force, though, it doesn't look like earlier Portals of Power will be compatible, meaning you'll need to pick up a new Starter Pack to play it. You won't be able to use Trap Team characters in the older games, either.

Skylanders creators Toys For Bob are back leading development on the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii versions, too, with Amazing Spider-Man developer Beenox handling the PS4, Xbox One, Wii U and 3DS versions. Beenox also developed the next-gen versions of last year's Swap Force.

The new Starter Pack will cost £64.99 on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and Wii U, and £59.99 on Wii and Nintendo 3DS, and will include the new Traptanium Portal, two new Skylanders and two crystal traps.
