Google announces update for its Glass device; doubles RAM and improves battery
On Tuesday, a day ahead of its annual I/O Developers Conference scheduled to be held at San Francisco's Moscone Center, Google said in a noteworthy announcement that it is rolling out an updated version of its futuristic Glass eyewear. The Glass device was first unveiled by Google at its I/O Developers Conference in 2012.
With the company having made a number of improvements to the $1,500-priced Explorer Edition of the Glass device over the last couple of years, the device was made available to the general public in the US in May this year. The Explorer Edition program has now been extended to the residents in the UK where the Glass went on sale on Tuesday.
Announcing the Glass upgrade via an official Google+ post, Google said that it has doubled the RAM of the device to 2GB, from 1GB. As a result of the upgraded hardware, which will be shipped in the US as well as the UK, Glass will be able to handle more applications simultaneously.
In addition to the upgraded RAM, the Glass update announced by Google also includes a bigger battery, which will be capable of giving a 15 percent more battery life in between charges.
About the updated Glass version, Google said in the Google+ post: 'With I/O about to kick off, we wanted to share some of the most recent improvements we'll be rolling out.'
