Yota Introduces The Yotaphone 2 Which Might Launch Sooner Than You Think

About 10 months ago, a company by the name of Yota released the worlds first Dual-screen smartphone, one regular display and a second e-ink display. It was designed to save battery life by using the very low-power e-ink display to show the user, at a glance, what they needed to see. Things like status updates, how many emails or text message users had, the weather, all things that could be glanced at and found useful without having to actually turn on the primary display of the device. Many people loved the idea, apparently so many that Yota has created a successor to the Yotaphone, the Yotaphone 2.

We first heard about the Yotaphone 2 during Mobile World Congress when the device was briefly mentioned, but since then we have heard absolutely nothing about the illusive device. Today that finally changed when Yota took the curtain off of the device for the first time in Moscow during a presentation. Like last years Yotaphone, the Yotaphone 2 will also has dual-screens, one being an e-ink screen, something that has become Yota's staple. The Yotaphone 2 will launch first in 20 European countries this month and then hit China and other Asian countries early next year. As for the United States, Yota made no comments about bringing the Yotaphone 2 to the United States. As others have pointed out, this is likely due to the terrible carrier situation in the United States.

When the Yotaphone 2 goes on sale it will cost 33,000 Rubles, that's about 495 Euro or $610. When exactly this phone will go on sale (and in where) is still uncertain. While Yota did give approximates of release dates and locations they did not give any specifics such as dates or which exact countries the device would be sold. The Yotaphone 2 will, like we mentioned above, have two screens, a regular 5-inch AMOLED screen that you are used to on a typical smartphone, and a second 4.7-inch e-ink screen. It will be packing a Snapdragon 800 processor, 32GB of storage, 8MP rear-facing camera, and be running Android KitKat.

One more notable thing about the Yotaphone 2 is that the company says that if you just use the e-ink display alone you will get about 5 days of battery life out of the device. Like we mentioned above, Yota made no announcement about bringing the Yotaphone 2 to the United States for sale. This means that it is highly unlikely that those of us who live in the states will ever see this new device on any store shelves.
