Reports: Apple to Unveil Next

Exciting news on the iPad front, Apple fans. If you're eager to hear to find out about Cupertino's next-gen tablet lineup, you might want to go ahead and mark your calendar for Oct. 16.

That's the date being reported by The Wall Street Journal and Re/Code, which has a reliable track record with Apple event rumors.

In addition to the new iPad lineup, Apple is likely to show off some new Macs and share news about OS X Yosemite and Apple Pay, both of which are expected to drop this month.

Re/code reckons the event will take place at the company's Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino instead of the Flint Center for the Performing Arts at De Anza College in Cupertino, where Apple unveiled the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It's also expected to be a more low-key event (no U2 concerts this time).

Apple itself has yet to send invitations to the event, but as the Journal noted, the company usually emails them out about nine to 10 days before the event.

So what can we expect from the new iPad lineup? We haven't heard too many rumors, but word has it that Apple is planning to add a gold color option for its next-gen 9.7-inch tablet, bringing it in line with the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, as well as iPhone 5s, which come in silver, space gray, and gold.
