Microsoft Releases Prototype Handwriting Keyboard App For Android ...

Barely a month after it announced a smartwatch version of its note-taking app, OneNote, Microsoft has announced a keyboard that lets you input text with handwritten characters.

The new keyboard - supported only on smartwaches running Android Wear, Google's operating system for wearables - aims to make writing on tiny watch screens more practical, as despite their wide range of functions, smartwatches hardly make communicating with people or browsing the Internet an easy task.

The prototype keyboard has several limitations, though. It does not support uppercase letters; works only on the the Moto 360 and watches with 320x320 resolution; and drains battery more than a regular android keyboard.

Notwithstanding the shortcomings, the handwriting keyboard could make many functions on smartwatches much easier to use. The keyboard is available for download as a zip file from Microsoft's website and needs to be sideloaded onto your smartwatch.
