Elon Musk warns that robots may see humans as spam and delete them

VISIONARY CHAP Elon Musk has put the fear of HAL into attendees at the Vanity Fair New Establishment Summit, telling them that artificial intelligence is likely to rise up and destroy humanity.

This has been a concern for a long time, and science fiction has made rather good money out of the proposition.

Musk, who probably had not spent the weekend watching Demon Seed or Transformers, is concerned that the more advanced the robots get the less respect for their creators they will have.

'I don't think anyone realises how quickly artificial intelligence is advancing... People really have no idea,' he said.

'If there is a super intelligence... and its utility function is detrimental to humanity, it will have a very bad effect.'

He said that humans could be viewed as the 'source of all spam' and that the AI overseer may nip us in the bud.

Musk said that no one would build such a feature in, unless we presume they are international super criminals, but did suspect that it may be an unintentional consequence of any advanced machine's 'utility function'.

Musk is usually found astride some forward looking technology pony and is the man behind SpaceX and its advances into the wider atmosphere.

Later in the interview he was asked whether humans could fly with SpaceX to Mars in an attempt to flee their artificially intelligent robotic superiority threat and he presumed that the death robots would probably follow anyway.

'No, more likely than not if there's some... apocalypse scenario, it may follow people from Earth,' he said. ยต
