Beware: Ebola

Cybercriminals are exploiting public's fear of Ebola through malware-laden mails themed around the deadly virus in a bid to infect their systems.

Cyber criminals are sending out email masquerading as being sent from World Health Organization (WHO) containing information on how to protect against Ebola. The email also contains an attachment, which if opened, will infect your system with remote access Trojan (RAT) called DarkComet - a rather nasty piece of malware that allows cyber criminals with complete control of your system.

According to security experts, email is said to be a targeted one only aimed at select few organizations being at the receiving end of the phishing scam.

'It isn't surprising to find cyber criminals continuing to piggyback on newsworthy and major events, disasters and outbreaks in order to lure potential victims and spread their malware,' said Trustwave. The security company revealed that they first came across the phishing attack via one of its 'honeypot' addresses.

The attack is similar to a recent phishing scam wherein a fake video was sent to Facebook users allegedly about the missing Malaysian Boeing MH370, which when clicked upon, redirected users to a malicious websites.
