The MOTA SmartRing is a New Kind of Wearable Tech

So far the burgeoning wearable tech boom has only focused on a limited number of fashion statements, watches and glasses mostly. But when it comes to finding potential new ways to strap little computers to our bodies, there's still a lot more room to explore. Need convincing? Check out the new MOTA SmartRing.

MOTA already has SmartWatches and SmartGlass, so the SmartRing represents their increasing commitment to this new product category, and it functions in similar ways. Users connect the ring to their iOS or Android phone through Bluetooth and use it to instantly and discreetly receive notifications. Users can then customize the ring to receive texts, emails, and various other social media alerts only from a select group of friends. The goal is for users to waste less of their time by keeping things limited to only the most important information.

The physical SmartRing itself features an LED touch screen, wireless inductive charging, and a pretty sleek, minimal black design. It may not be luxury jewelry, but it also doesn't look that embarrassing to actually put on and use in public, the best compliment wearable tech can get. MOTA promises that the ring's durability and water resistance will let it withstand the casual beatings that come with staying attached to a human hand all day.

MOTA has just launched their Indiegogo campaign for interested users to pre-order the SmartRing now for $60, about half of its planned retail price, and they can expect it to arrive sometime next April. So if you like it, here's your chance to put a ring on it.
