Lenovo unveils Vibe X2 smartphone and speaker, battery docks

The Lenovo Vibe X2 is a smartphone with an unusual 'layered' design that comes in a range of colors, a MediaTek octa-core processor, 4G LTE and a bunch of features aimed at folks who like to shoot selfies with their smartphone cameras.

But what I find most interesting about Lenovo's new smartphone is the new accessories Lenovo is also introducing.

Need extra battery life? Just slap on a Vibe X2 Battery. Want to listen to music? Just attach the Vibe X2 Speaker dock.

The speaker dock features a kickstand that also has a built-in JBL speaker and a hardware volume knob. You can slide the phone into the dock, prop it up on a table, and blast some tunes without listening to tinny built-in smartphone speakers.

Want to double your battery life? Just attach the Vibe X2 battery to the back of the phone.

Both the battery and speaker dock are click-on accessories.

The phone itself features a layered design which makes it look like the phone is assembled from 3 different stacks of colored material. It'll be available in several different color schemes including gold, red, white, and dark grey.

Lenovo is also promoting the Vibe X2 as a selfie-centric phone thanks to the 5MP front-facing camera and software that lets you snap a photo without touching the screen. The camera app to take a picture with the front camera when you blink or wave your hand over the screen.

Lenovo sells an awful lot of smartphones China, but the company hasn't yet entered the US market... although it does plan to do so eventually. It's not clear at this point if the Vibe X2 will be available outside of China anytime soon.
