New PS4 2.0 Fall update to include 'SharePlay' feature

To up the ante and make every PlayStation 4 session more social, Sony is set to introduce 'SharePlay,' along with several other changes on its famed gaming console.

The next PS4 update, aptly named System Update 2.0, will come with SharePlay, allowing gamers to play a videogame remotely or jump into an ongoing game.

The update, which has also been likened to a 'virtual couch,' makes it debut this fall.

According to Sony, the feature is a lot like 'handing over the controller to a friend on your couch,' only the 'couch' is not real, and the ability to participate is solely made possible over an internet connection.

The SharePlay feature allows gamers from all over the world to connect and join games hosted by another player.

It may be recalled that SharePlay was promised by Sony in a press conference the company gave as early as June this year.

Aside from SharePlay, Sony also announced at the Gamescom 2014 expo held in Berlin that YouTube will receive dedicated app support on PS4 consoles. This means gamers may upload videos straight from their PS4 to YouTube with ease.

Finally, the PS4 2.0 update will come with a feature that allows gamers to find friends through a real name search and quick access to friends' public broadcasts.

This feature, which aims to enhance real-time activity, also allows gamers to keep an eye on their friends' progress in recently played games.

Although Sony has not specifically announced the release date for System Update 2.0, tech blogs seem confident the update should be out by the final quarter of the year.
