Sony PS4 sales beat Microsoft Xbox One in June sales in spite of doubling sales

Sony's PlayStation 4′s June 2014′s sales beats Xbox One sales, though Microsoft claimed that it has doubled its sales after the price cut for its console, along with the removal of Kinect sensors.

Even though Microsoft has not released its official Xbox One sales figures, but the company claims sales has doubled after the Kinect-less console was offered at $399. The 'doubled sales' in May sales is based on the data sourced from selling units and units shipped from stores and mentioned that the Xbox 360 growth is solid as well. The June sales report has been released by NPD, a market research firm which found sales of PS4 in the lead in spite of the doubling Xbox One sales.

'Combined sales of Xbox One and PS4 are 80 percent higher than the combined total for Xbox 360 and PS3, an indication of the strength of the start of this new console generation,' said Liam Callahan, NPD analyst.

There was an overall 200 percent increase in console sales, indicating that the PS4 is also having high console sales. As Microsoft didn't release the May sales figures it is difficult to decipher the meaning of 'more than double' sales. However the company's move to offer a Kinect-less console with reduced price has paid off. Nintendo also increased its sales with a total of 800,000 consoles sold in May and June.

Nintendo is catching up with the console market with the popularity of Mario Kart 8 which is in the second spot of software sales while Ubisoft's Watchdogs remained in the first position. Earlier the companies had revealed unit sales figures with Sony selling 7 million PS4′s, Nintendo sells 6 million Wii U's and Microsoft ship 5 million Xbox to retailers.
