BlackBerry Ltd To Host Security Summit On July 29

Amid the recent developments as Apple-IBM deal, Knox-Android alliance, BlackBerry will host Security Summit on July 29.

BlackBerry Ltd. ( NASDAQ:BBRY) ( TSE:BB) will host the BlackBerry Security Summit for discussing the present trends and upcoming ones related to secure enterprise mobility. The Summit is scheduled on July 29 in New York City.

Summit to address security concerns

The event will have many people as attendees, which include BlackBerry partners, experts from the industry and customers, as well. The company's CEO John Chen and his senior leadership team members will, also, be present at the summit. Together they will throw light on the security threats faced these days and future risks connected with the Internet of Things. The Summit will also focus on investment in mobile security and investment required in regulated industries like healthcare, financial services and government.

BlackBerry CEO will surely have some interesting points to discuss following the Apple-IBM deal and Google-Samsung alliance.

Recent developments affecting BlackBerry

After the recent adoption of Knox by Google Inc ( NASDAQ:GOOG) ( NASDAQ:GOOGL), there has been wide speculation across the tech industry that Samsung's Knox and Google's Android technology is very much competent with BlackBerry security, but Chen had a different opinion and issued a clarification on the same, where he has tried his best to make the facts clear.

'While we applaud Google and Samsung for their plans, we don't think it's enough for security-minded enterprises. Instead, look to companies that have literally invested three decades into advancing the twin causes of security and productivity,' Chen said in a blog post. Chen, also, feels that enterprises should not pay much heed to what the other companies have to say, and they must stick that have repeatedly proven their worth through the work done.

The above statement from BlackBerry has come in retaliation to an announcement made by Google on the 25th of June, where it talked about improving Android's security making use of many techniques of which adopting Samsung's Knox containerization technology is one.

Another recent development affecting BlackBerry was an enterprise mobility deal between International Business Machines Corp. ( NYSE:IBM) and Apple Inc. ( NASDAQ:AAPL). Enterprise sector has been BlackBerry's forte for long, and the same was the focus of Chen's turnaround strategy. Following the news of the deal, shares of the Canadian firm witnessed a drop, and a spokesperson Kiyomi Rutledge came in public to defend.

In a statement, Rutledge said the deal between Apple-IBM reflects the ongoing need for secure end-to-end enterprise mobility solution, which BlackBerry has been providing for years. The spokesperson, further, said that the corporate and government clients should not go for a solution based on Apple's consumer-focused technology.
