Which is the better tablet device for consumers to purchase? We pit the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 against the Nexus 7 to see which is better.


In terms of the design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has a 7 inches PLS LCD touch screen that has a resolution of 600 x 1024 pixels. The Galaxy Tab 2's dimensions are at 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5 mm, and it weights 345 g.

Meanwhile the Nexus 7 has an IPS LCD LED-backlit touch screen, which has a higher resolution of 1200 x 1920 pixels. This Nexus 7 is lighter than its competitor, weighing 290 g and it comes with the following dimensions: 200 x 114 x 8.7 mm.


For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 has a dual core clocked at 1 GHz. The chipset that comes along is the TI OMAP 4430 and it supports a 1 GB of RAM and has multiple options of internal memory: 8GB, 16GB and 32GB (expandable up to 32GB via microSD card). Its the Android Ice Cream Sandwich (upgradable to Android Jelly Bean).


On the other hand, Nexus 7 is powered by a quad core processor (Krait) which works at 1.5 GHz. The Nexus 7's chipset is the Snapdragon S4Pro from Qualcomm. It comes with a 2GB of RAM and two variants of internal storage: 16GB and 32GB (this memory is not expandable by microSD card). The Nexus 7 runs on Android Jelly Bean (upgradable to Android KitKat).


For battery and camera specs, both devices come with a non-removable battery unit as the Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 has a Li-Ion 4000 mAh battery, while the LG Nexus 7 has a Li-Ion 3950 mAh battery. The Nexus 7 sports a superior primary camera, as well as a secondary one. The rear camera on this device has 5MP (autofocus), while the front-facing one has 1.2MP.As for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, it has a rear-facing camera of 3.15MP, while the front camera is a VGA camera.


The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (8 GB) cost $198.99, while the Nexus 7(16 GB) cost somewhere around $159.99.
