Sony: Xperia Z2 will arrive in the US this summer

When Sony took the wraps off of the Xperia Z2 back in February, the company teased that its new flagship smartphone would begin rolling out around the globe in March. Now we're here nearing the end of April and the Xperia Z2 is nowhere to be found in the U.S. The good news is that that'll be changing soon.

Sony recently confirmed to TechCrunch that the Xperia Z2 will launch in the U.S. Unfortunately, the firm wouldn't provide a firm release date, instead only saying that the Z2 will arrive during the 'summer.'

As for which carriers will sell the Z2, well, that's still up in the air. Sony plans to offer the Z2 in unlocked form through its online store, just like its done with several of its other recently-released phones. TechCrunch gleamed from Sony's statement that the device maker is still in talks with U.S. carriers about selling the device and that no plans have been set in stone quite yet.

Sony hasn't exactly had a huge presence in the U.S. lately: T-Mobile launched the Xperia Z1S earlier this year, but that's about the only Sony device that we've seen on a U.S. carrier recently. And while it's awesome to hear that Sony will sell the Xperia Z2 unlocked like it has with several other recent devices, doing so also means that it won't have a presence in carrier stores and it will have a full retail price, two things that won't help it to grow market share.
