Mozilla announces Chris Beard as interim CEO

Mozilla has announced executive Chris Beard as its interim CEO.

The announcement comes just two weeks after the controversial departure of previous head Brendan Eich.

Eich came under fire over his anti-gay marriage stance, having donated money in support of California's ban of gay marriage in 2008.

His presence in the company drew criticism and prompted protest, most notably from dating website OKCupid.

The news of Beard's appointment was revealed on Monday (April 14) via Mozilla's official blog, in a post titled 'Mozilla Moving Forward'.

Chairwoman Mitchell Baker said in the statement: 'In this time of transition there is no better person to lead us.

'Chris has one of the clearest visions of how to take the Mozilla mission and turn it into programs and activities and product ideas that I have ever seen.'

Beard, who also sits on Mozilla's board of directors, has apparently been 'actively involved' with the company since its early stages.

Mozilla has revealed plans to create a long-term plan for the next CEO.

'We intend to use recent events as a catalyst to develop and expand Mozilla's leadership,' Baker added.
