Microsoft to give out free week of Xbox Live Gold due to March 11 outage

Back during Titanfall's release week (March 11, to be exact), Xbox Live suffered a massive service outage. According to Microsoft, the outage was unrelated to Titanfall, and instead affected a number of Xbox Live's core services. The cause is still not entirely clear.

This week, it appears as though Microsoft is offering reparations to those impacted by the outage. Users who couldn't play online during the outage have been gifted with a free week of Xbox Live Gold. Those who qualify are being notified via the Xbox Live Messaging system; there's no word yet on whether every Xbox Live Gold member will receive the gift or only those who attempted to log on.

'We know you experienced an issue signing in to your Xbox One on 3/11/2014,' the message reads. 'We apologize and will soon give you 7 days of Xbox Live Gold for your inconvenience.'
